Morrows Staff Profile: Helen Grigg

Helen joined Morrows in 2005 and is now Manager of Strategic Human Resources.  Her ambition was to help to develop a high performance culture that encourages and inspires people to achieve their full potential.  Helen was attracted Morrows’ unique multi-discipline offering to clients, and had a desire to impart her specialist knowledge to support the strategic business direction and Morrows’ clients with advice in her area of expertise.

What inspired you to become a Manager of Strategic Human Resources?

I have watched the role of Human Resources grow over the last two decades from an administrative role into something that is essential for businesses to stay competitive in a globalised market. Knowing my contribution potentially makes a difference in a commercial sense and to the everyday lives of people in their roles is what drives and inspires me.

What do you consider to be your strengths in your role at Morrows?

Resilience and being able to work through all the difficult and complex problems. The intersection of business and people is dynamic and always moving. They have to coexist and that often requires having a dispassionate long term vision. Ideally, that long term vision and the plans you put in place are beneficial for all parties, so it works out well for everyone. Most of my role is about navigating situations that are not black and white and being able to collaborate with people who help me make decisions on projects and issues confronting businesses every day.

Having worked at Morrows for more than 9 years, what do you consider to be your greatest contribution?

There are a number of things that come to mind. We have implemented programs such as the Leadership Group to develop talent; improved feedback loops and performance management systems that allow managers and staff to interact better; and created ongoing leadership programs to train and develop all our people. These programs and others have had a cumulative effect – they push our people to be the best they can be, which is reflected in the advice they provide to clients.

I also have a great relationship with some of Morrows clients. It is hard to be an expert in every area of business and I am able to provide specialist advice which gives them time to focus on areas in which they are experts.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to?

I have a passion for wreck hunting and investigating maritime history and antiquities.  I regularly go to auctions looking for maritime heritage items and have a large collection at home.

How do you feel about your career and family? Do you feel that Morrows supports you?

Morrows has supported me in my education and career growth and allowed me to grow professionally. Family and down time is also of huge importance to me and Morrows has always given me the opportunity to travel and balance my personal hobbies with work which is great for my wellbeing.
