Professional Background:
Murray entered the profession in 1972 as a practising accountant. He has since gained considerable experience in financial planning and retirement consulting, making him one of the most experienced practitioners in the industry. His breadth of knowledge, passion, and experience led to his appointment as Chair of CPA Australia's Superannuation Centre of Excellence, a position which he held for nine years. He represented the industry at a national government level, helping develop and implement superannuation policy and legislation.
He has appeared before the Senate Select Committee on Superannuation and has been an expert witness representing the accounting profession. He was also a member of the superannuation advisory committee, which was established by the industry and the Australian Taxation Office to advise the Government on high-level superannuation issues.
Murray has been rewarded for his leadership in 2000 when he received the Henry Fox Award. It is presented by public accountants for outstanding service to public practice. In 2004 he also won the President's Award and the Charles Holmes Medal.
Murray also regularly presents on retirement and planning issues for CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Taxation Institute of Australia, the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia Ltd, and other professional bodies. He is sought after to provide commentary on policy issues to the press and has appeared on several national television programs.
